EDWATEC at ECOC 2025: Showcasing the Future of On-Chip Optical Amplification

June 20 2025

We were thrilled to be part of ECOC 2025 in Copenhagen, Europe’s largest exhibition for optical communications, where we demonstrated how Erbium-Doped Waveguide Amplifiers (EDWAs) are redefining the limits of integrated photonics.

At booth #C1320, visitors experienced EDWATEC’s live demonstration of chip-scale optical amplification — a milestone that brings the performance of fiber amplifiers directly onto silicon photonic platforms. This live demo showcased stable, broadband gain across the C-band in a compact, fully integrable format, highlighting how EDWAs can seamlessly combine with silicon nitride and silicon photonics technologies.

Our platform represents a paradigm shift in optical amplification, enabling:

  • Scalable foundry manufacturing compatible with existing PIC processes
  • High gain and low noise on a sub-cm² footprint
  • Hybrid laser and amplifier integration for telecom, datacom, sensing, LiDAR, and space applications
  • Robust reliability suitable for industrial and space-grade environments

We were also honored to be featured by Optica and Jon Pugh, who visited our booth and shared our story in a short video segment highlighting our vision for scalable, on-chip amplification.

We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who visited our booth, engaged with our team, and shared their perspectives on the future of integrated photonics. Special appreciation goes to Parsa Khorasani, Grigorii Likhachev, and Baoyun Sun for their tireless efforts in preparing the live demonstration, and to our CEO Dr. Amir Youssefi and CTO Dr. Peter Ils for representing EDWATEC’s vision and technology leadership at the event.

As we continue advancing our Erbium-doped photonic platform, EDWATEC remains committed to enabling scalable, high-performance optical amplification — powering the next generation of integrated lasers, amplifiers, and photonic systems.

Stay tuned for more updates as we bring EDWAs and EDWLs from lab to market.
