At ECOC 2024 in Frankfurt, our CTO and Co-founder, Dr. Amir Youssefi, was invited to speak at the “Massively Parallel Optical Transceivers” workshop, where he presented EDWATEC’s core technology: on-chip optical amplification using Erbium-Doped Waveguide Amplifiers (EDWAs).
In his talk, Dr. Youssefi shared how EDWAs can be used to efficiently boost the output power of soliton microcombs—paving the way for high-performance optical interconnects in datacenter environments, as demonstrated in recent work [Yang Liu, et al., Science, 2022]. He also discussed the potential of EDWAs to be monolithically integrated with silicon photonics platforms, offering up to 30 dB of on-chip gain and output powers exceeding 200 mW.
If you’re attending ECOC, we invite you to visit us at Booth F39 to see the technology firsthand and learn how EDWATEC is advancing the frontiers of integrated photonic amplification.
